More than 1,100 migrants are currently housed at a makeshift reception center in Agya, in Crete’s Hania region, after additional migrant boats arrived on the nearby island of Gavdos on Sunday.

There was no information on when the migrants would be transferred to the mainland. The situation at the center remains tense, with coast guard and police on constant alert.

Migrant arrivals from North Africa have continued despite recent legislation aimed at curbing inflows.
