Firefighters were battling a blaze on the eastern Aegean island of Levos on Thursday, which broke out on farm and forest land outside Vrisa, a village near the southern coast, some 50 kilometers from the capital, Mytilene.

The blaze is burning on two separate fronts near the areas of Koroni and Paliopyrgos and has spread over a large area, according to the island’s fire chief.

Officials said 28 firefighters with 10 engines, a ground team, two water-dropping aircraft and four helicopters have been deployed to the area.
